Quantum of Solace

I have had the debate of who would win in a fight between Bourne and Bond for years. Before Casino Royale I would have said Bourne hands down, after Casino Royale I would have said it was a fair fight, now I would say Bourne would be destroyed. I love Daniel Craig’s Bond, he is so much more driven, he still has the charm and swagger but he has something else. In this we are back to Bond in more ways than with Casino Royale, mostly in relation to the women. The opening sequence is fantastic and exciting and the action just doesn’t stop. It is fantastic from start to finish. My only complaint was with MI6 where they had endless touch screen and voice activated stuff and it just doesnt seem to fit the new Bond. Other than that brilliant.

Burn After Reading

If you like the Coen’s you should love this. It is very funny! I think I prefer them when they do more serious stuff, but this is genuinly in many places laugh out loud funny. Very all over the place, a higgldy piggldy plot, a very quiet sound track, slow moving yet not really affected by that, all in all very Coen. Brad Pitt is hysterical, there is one particular part that still has me giggling. Definatly worth seeing. Great cast, strange story. I loved it.

Eagle Eye

If you can go to the cinema already having decided to completly suspend belief you will love this. If you cant you wont. I could so I did! Very good, entertaining, fast and entirely beyond possible. I loved it. Shia LaBoef was as entertaining as ever. Worth seeing!

Tropic Thunder

I really wasnt expecting much from this, I heard that Tom Cruise and Robert Downey Jr were amazing. They were very funny, especially Tom Cruise who I didnt recognise at first. There were a couple of funny moments that did not involve them but they were not really laugh out loud. It was funny, but not incredible. I think the problem was Ben Stiller and Jack Black, they were boring and standard. The rest of the cast was great.

How to lose friends and alienate people

This has a very long title. But it was funny, funnier than Run, Baby Run. I love Simon Pegg and he was entertaining as always. Still not up to the standard of his own work, spaced etc but funny enough as romantic comedies go, better than most.

Death Race

This was a 15, so I went expecting kind of average violence. Not excessive. It should have been an 18. Not that I didnt enjoy it but I think of the certificate as a warning of what to expect and I did not expect people to be getting spiked and have blood everywhere. It was more gruesome than expected is all I am saying. Other than that a fairly standard bit of Jason Statham entertainment, violent and action packed with little else. New transporter coming out by the way, looks good!

The Women

Again this was dissapointing although I wasnt really particularly excited about it anyway. It was actually probably just what I expected. Some funny moments, some not so funny moments. A bit boring, but occasionally entertaining. I got it for free, wouldnt have paid!

Pineapple Express

I think I was a little disappointed by this I mean it was funny but I had heard so many great things I thought it would be hilarious. It was very American funny, a bit slow at the beginning and definatly in the realm of entirely silly which can be funny to a point but begins to get boring. James France was genuinly very amusing and very good to see him a bit away from his usual mopey eyes! Seth Rogen was Seth Rogen which is no bad thing. All in all worth seeing but mostly is was average.

The Duchess

I had heard very mixed reviews about this, some said it was nothing but pretty and I dont see why! I loved it. Keira does her best when she is in period and she was fantastic. Ralph Fiennes was at his usual standard and the supporting cast was good. There were some very sad moments, one in particular that had me full on crying, which I dont often do and that is a credit to Keira. I thought this was a brilliant film, entertaining, funny and tragic.

Rocknrolla

I was excited about this one, I loved lock stock and everyone says that this was Guy Richie’s comeback. It didnt dissapoint. I am a huge Gerard Butler fan and he was fun. In fact he was one of many who were great. Very funny, very Guy Richie, very good!
