The International

So I have not been updating this as much as I should! This is the last of my recent watchings. I love Clive Owen. He is so much fun to watch. However, this was really quite dissapointing. I dont know what was wrong, I think it is that it doesnt really seem to feel resolved at all. Which I think is the point, it is however still annoying! Clive is of course fabulous, a fairly typical role, with his usual coat as far as I can tell. However, it does not diminish his wonderfulness at all! Wait for DVD though if you are wanting to see it.

Gran Torino

Everyone should see this film. It was unbelievable. If this really is Clint Eastwoods final acting bow then it is something spectacular to go out with. In places it  is really very very funny, but also moving and sad and beautifully made. It is a gentle but violent film that works so well. I was semi excited to see it and I am so glad I did. Genuinly fantastic. Oh and Clint sings at the end. And he can growl better than any dog, a few fun facts!

I was so excited about seeing this as I have been waiting months since the Sundance festival when it did so well. I think the anticipation didnt help. That is not to say it wasnt good. It was, it just wasnt amazing. The basic idea is fantastic and there is huge hope for a sequel now that the groundwork has been laid. I think if you like things of the genre it is worth seeing. There is a fantastic cast, I am not sure they gave Djimon Hounsou enough to do, his character could have been so much more. Although the other bad guy - who has the massive fight scene with Chris Evans (not the ginger one) was cool. Or it might have just been that scene! Anyway, I would suggest seeing it but perhaps if the genre is not that much for you wait for the DVD. It is however, I think, exciting to see hope for Dakota Fanning as a more grown up actress. She is very good. Particularly funny drunk!

Valkyrie

I was really expecting to hate this which I think helped in my enjoyment! I found it certainly informative, and by all accounts it is relatively historically accurate except that they exagerated how close they came to success. My big problem with it was how unbelievably american Tom Cruise is. For all that I say I hate him, I do actually like most of his films. He played the part very well but his voice is too American. The British stars at least had a neutral accent but it just did not seem right that one of Germany’s hero’s was made so unbelievably american. Other than that I actually think they did quite well.
